Deffenbaugh and Burwell Engineering Scholarships

Seattle Pacific University awards several Deffenbaugh and Burwell Engineering scholarships of up to $5,000 to incoming freshmen majoring in an engineering discipline. These first-year scholarships are awarded based on the potential for the student to succeed in SPU’s engineering programs as well as demonstrated financial need.

Application Process

In order to be considered for the Deffenbaugh or Burwell Engineering Scholarship, you must do the following:

  • Apply to Seattle Pacific University
  • Complete the Deffenbaugh and Burwell Engineering Scholarship application
  • Complete the application essay describing why you've chosen SPU and what inspires you (instructions below)
  • Submit your FAFSA to SPU
Essay

At SPU, we define a successful engineering graduate as a person who, guided by a Christian perspective, seeks to serve people around the world by successfully leading the development of innovative solutions to real world issues. Tell us what you have done so far that has prepared you for success in this way – use examples such as classes and extra-curricular activities. Have you been involved in any leadership positions in church, school or otherwise?  Also, tell us what ideas you have for your future along these lines. Do you have dreams of what impact you can make on the world through engineering?

Deadline

Applications must be submitted by February 15 in order to be considered. Scholarship recipients will be notified by March 1.
