Taavi Moore

taavi moore What is your major?
Nutrition and Dietetics

What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
Dietetics is not just learning how to curate meal plans and calculate caloric intake. It also encompasses the mind-to-body connection with food. Food is exciting and delicious. There isn’t one way to eat, and it’s insightful to learn the different approaches people have towards food!

What was your most impactful class?
Nutrition Ed and Counseling sparked my interest in the nutrition counseling area of dietetics. I’d love to educate and encourage others to improve their relationship with food through nutrition education and counseling techniques.

What are some of your career goals?
I hope to start my dietetic internship in January 2022. This internship is the next step in my dietetic career before taking the exam to become credentialed as a registered dietitian. I would love to have a private practice in the future that specializes in eating disorders, disordered eating, and possibly GI conditions. I currently run a plant-based food blog and Instagram page (healthienut.com and @healthienut) and would love to take that on more full-time alongside my private practice.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Form connections, take those opportunities that make you nervous, and create work-life boundaries. Connecting with others in my major helped me realize that I am not the only one struggling. My peers encouraged and pushed me — they were my support system. It’s also important to take those opportunities that drive you out of your comfort zone. There will be no growth without mistakes and opening yourself up to unfamiliar environments. Lastly, and I think the most vital, create work-life boundaries. There’s nothing worse than missing out on social activities, time for self-care, and enjoying God’s creation when school takes up your whole life. You will not and cannot perform to your fullest potential if you don’t give yourself breaks. Be kind to yourself! Find rest in the Lord during these times.
