Major: Biochemistry
What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
I think the biggest thing is that it prepares you a lot for any kind of schooling you might do after completing your undergraduate degree (medical school, graduate program, etc.). All the hard work you put into studying is definitely worth it.
What was your most impactful class or professor?
My most impactful class was definitely molecular biology. In the class, you get to perform a real, fully funded research project with a group. This class challenged my ability to understand and apply course concepts like no other class had before. It’s amazing the transformation I was able to go through just by taking this class. When you get to see all the hard work you and your group members put in get paid off with a final research paper at the end of the quarter, it’s a really great feeling.
What are you excited for in your future career?
I plan to attend medical school to become a physician after taking a gap year. Ultimately, I hope to play a role in helping my patients overcome their health troubles, getting them back to enjoying the activities they love doing.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Find groups of people that enjoy doing some of the same activities as you. It’s great to have some connections with people who share common interests.
How have you grown during your time at SPU?
My time in the classroom and my time on the men’s soccer team has allowed me to develop into a more understanding person and a better leader. I have been fortunate enough to learn from some great role models what it looks like to lead, and I hope to carry that with me into the future.
