Education: BA, Pennsylvania State University, 1977; MA, University of Washington, 1995; PhD, University of Washington, 2005. At SPU 1995–2019. Emeritus since 2019.

Rick Jackson began his work at SPU following 13 years as copy editor and religion reporter at daily newspapers in Springfield, Missouri, and Everett, Washington. He is married and has two children.

Dr. Jackson’s teaching balances building skills in reporting and writing with examining the role of journalism and mass media in society. Dr. Jackson also serves as faculty adviser for The Falcon, SPU’s award-winning student newspaper.

At a time of revolutionary change in media industries, it is more important than ever to examine journalism and media industries through a critical lens that is informed by Christian faith. Dr. Jackson’s work emphasizes an approach to media work that focuses the best practices in the workplace and strong ethics in all of life.
