“I do not know that anything has ever been more exciting than diagramming sentences!” – Gertrude Stein
This course is half an anatomy lesson — an introduction to the names of the bones with which we construct our language, as well as the connections between them — and half a course in prescriptive grammar, teaching students how to edit their own prose. With a little luck, however, it’s ultimately a course in writing well. Includes an extensive introduction to Reed and Kellogg’s old-fashioned diagrams, weekly editing quizzes, grammatical bloopers, and three exams.
