Keyboard Studies

Keyboard Student

Keyboard studies are an essential part of the curriculum for every music student at SPU. Music majors, Music minors, and students who have been awarded keyboard scholarships have the opportunity to receive individual instruction with a superb faculty of artist teachers in the areas of piano, jazz piano, organ, and harpsichord.

The Keyboard Performance emphasis helps students develop the skills for performing a public junior and senior solo recital. It also provides preparation for graduate studies or for a career as a private studio instructor, accompanist, or a ministry in church music.

More information on the Music Performance Emphasis.

An excellent group piano program meets the needs of nonmusic majors through classes in our modern Yamaha electronic piano lab. These classes also assist vocal and instrumental music majors in meeting the basic keyboard proficiency expectations required of all Music majors.

Opportunities for keyboard performance while at SPU include Junior and Senior Recitals, weekly Music Practicum, participation in chamber music groups, accompanying, and participation in Chamber Ensemble or other SPU ensembles.
