Production and Design Emphasis

Production Emphasis

Are you interested in studying theatre and developing your gifts for a future in theatre production? Our BA in Theatre with an emphasis in Production and Design offers you a rigorous education and a rich foundation to prepare you as a theatre-maker.

Benefits

As a Theatre major with a Production and Design emphasis, you will be prepared for the many “behind-the-scenes” facets that bring a theatre production to life. You will have the opportunity to grow in your mastery of stage management, scenic design, costume design, makeup design, prop design, lighting design, sound design, and more. Between classes and hands-on participation in theatre productions, you will be exposed to a wide range of dramatic forms and styles, and you will learn to work collaboratively with a team in a professional setting.

Major Courses and Degree Requirements

In addition to your core Theatre major courses, with a Production and Design emphasis you will take courses that provide you with a focused and integrative approach to Theatre production. Course options include “CAD for the Theatre,” “Scene Painting,” “Scenic Design,” “Costume Design,” “Stage Makeup,” and “Portfolio Development.” You will study aspects of live production from pre-production through the rehearsal and performance phases of a theatrical production.

The minimum total credits required for a Theatre major emphasis is 80 quarter credits, including 30 upper-division credits. The minimum total credits required for a degree is 180 quarter credits.
