2020–21 Season
(Almost) live theatre is back!
While COVID-19 has kept us from being able to produce a full season of live productions, we have not been idle. Working remotely and in-person under strict safety guidelines, the SPU Theatre Department has found ways to keep active.
During Autumn Quarter, student performers took part in a Zoom workshop of Arlene Hutton’s new play, The Shakers of Mount Lebanon Will Hold A Peace Conference This Month, which culminated in a live staged reading on Nov. 9, 2020, directed by Marianne Savell.
During Winter Quarter, we presented The Midsummer Project, a three-week serialized performance of William Shakespeare’s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by C.T. Doescher. Each week, the company worked through Shakespeare’s text, specifically developing their performance for the unique environment of the Zoom platform. Episodes were performed on three consecutive Saturdays — Feb. 20 and 27, and March 6, 2021.
Finally, in May 2021 we are excited to stream a newly devised play, Held Together!
A devised play by Candace Vance, Alycia Linton, Hannah Lund, Caleb Macduff-Walton, and the SPU theatre community.
Directed by Candace Vance.
