Ivy Cutting

Friday, June 7, 2024  |  10–11 a.m.  |  Tiffany Loop

Ivy Cutting has been part of graduation rites at SPU since 1922. Graduating students and SPU faculty don their academic regalia and assemble in Tiffany Loop beneath towering elm trees, continuing this tradition. The ceremony represents both the students’ ties to SPU and the independence that comes with graduation. Graduates should wear caps and gowns. This is an outdoor ceremony, so please dress accordingly.

Getting There

Please refer to the directions and parking page for more information.

Guest Arrival

Guests are welcome to start arriving any time after 9 a.m. Unless otherwise marked, all seating is available.

Student Lineup

Graduates should line up at 9:45 a.m. on the Fifth Avenue Streetscape (between Marston and Weter halls). See the undergraduate instructions page for more information.

Livestream

The ceremony will be livestreamed, and the link will be on the Commencement homepage a few days before the event. The livestream recording will be available for viewing after the event on the livestreaming page, but may not be available until a week or so afterward. Note: No other videographers are allowed in any aisle or near the platform.

Rain plan

If there is a forecast for severe weather, including heavy rain and/or thunder and lightning, the Rain Plan will be put into action. Students will receive email notification if and when the Rain Plan is put into action. If you do not receive a rain plan notification, it means the event will be outdoors as originally schedule. Please be sure to plan for the weather.

Photography

You are free to take photographs and video of this beautiful ceremony. We respectfully ask you to remain inside the designated seating areas, and not venture out into the aisles and pathways.
