What is your major?
My major is
Cellular and Molecular Biology with a
Chemistry minor.
What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
If you work hard and keep your goals in mind, the hard classes (read: organic chemistry) and late nights are totally worth it.
What was your most impactful class or professor?
Dr. Tenlen made a profound impact on my academic career at SPU. She is the best example of having a personal connection to a specific area of science and letting that inform and drive her research. Dr. Tenlen is also the most caring professor I’ve interacted with, and she truly takes time for all her students. Her teaching helped me develop an idea of what being a strong woman in STEM means.
What are some of your career goals?
After graduation I want to work as an emergency medical technician, and eventually attend medical school. I hope to work as a physician in my hometown in Nevada and be a part of reducing the health disparities in the surrounding community.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Get involved in anything you’re interested in. I made a lot of friends by doing activities I liked and exploring common interests with the people I met!
What SPU has meant to you?
To me, SPU has meant being in a supportive environment that prepared me well for my next steps. It was valuable to be in a community of friends with similar goals as me, and to have professors that provided encouragement and support over the last few years.
