What is your major?
I am an
Informational System major.
What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
It’s a combination of computer science and business. It’s fun and perfect for students who want to explore the exciting possibilities of the overlap of computer science and business.
What was your most impactful class or professor?
My most impactful professor was Professor Randy Franz. I took a business class with him, and I am sincerely grateful for his positive impact on the class and me personally. His exceptional and innovative teaching method has helped strengthen my confidence in sharing my opinion. He also was such a significant impact on how I see the world and how I shape my life purposes. When it came to choosing a career, I used to envision myself with a comfortable income in a prestigious corporate. However, after my business class, I know that making an impact on people’s lives is the ultimate purpose I want to pursue.
What are some of your career goals?
This is the most challenging question for me as I am still navigating through my passions and interests. My current supervisor at the Center for Career and Calling has taught me that “there is no one way to pursue a career.” I am hoping to get a position in product design after graduation, and my long-term career goals are to explore the possibilities in the world and learn along the way.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
It’s not the end of the world if you feel like you are never sure of what you want to do — because me too! SPU offers so many amazing opportunities for you to try out and fail, so don’t be afraid to get involved in what interests you as much as possible. You’ll never know where that leads you. Don’t forget to reach out to the professional and phenomenal staff at SPU for help too!
What SPU has meant to you?
I have a love and hate relationship with SPU. I love the small community here and it’s much easier to make impact and build community than other big schools. I’ve grown a lot during my two years at SPU. The experience at SPU taught me how special and unique I am with my cultural identity and strength differences. Although there are still so many things I would want to change about SPU, with the incredible staff and small community here, I definitely have hope for future students to make SPU a better place for all of us, especially for diverse students like me!
