What is something you wish everyone knew about your major? The biochemistry program here at SPU offers an exceptional, comprehensive education in both biological and chemical sciences. Countless opportunities are available for students to engage with the community through research opportunities provided in classes and internships facilitated by professors. Additionally, the passionate faculty and supportive community within the major offer numerous avenues for students to connect and network for internships and career opportunities.

What was your most impactful class or professor? One of the most impactful classes I took was Molecular Biology. It was heavily research-oriented, with student-led teams conducting their own projects. The independence and expertise gained from that experience shaped and taught me invaluable research skills, leading to opportunities to work at Fred Hutch in a research lab.

What are you excited for in your future career? After graduating, I aim to pursue a career in medical research. I'm eager to apply the knowledge and skills I've acquired over the years to make a tangible impact on people's lives. Furthermore, I anticipate the ongoing journey that research offers, providing continuous opportunities for learning and growth.

What advice do you have for incoming students? One crucial aspect for me has been the connections I've cultivated over the years. While the smaller class sizes facilitate this, it's essential for students to engage as much as possible — with professors, peers, and the broader community.

How have you grown during your time at SPU? SPU has provided me with a holistic education. This comprehensive approach has not only shaped my thinking and problem-solving skills but has also influenced how I navigate both my personal and professional life. I attribute much of this growth to my experiences at SPU and the individuals I've encountered along the way.
