What is something you wish everyone knew about your major? Many people are always surprised to hear that SPU has an Apparel Design and Merchandising program. It may be a small part of campus, but I have never met more creative, kind-hearted, and energetic people than I have while being in the major. We have truly become a little family and I am so proud to have been a part of such a great department.
What advice do you have for incoming students? When starting college, it’s great to have a plan and specific expectations but do not be scared to drift in different directions. Try as many new things that you can and do not be afraid to be bold & talk to new people — I met my best friends by randomly knocking on one's door and having one ask to sit with me in the Loop as a stranger. Your academics will always be important but remember to take the time to learn who you are and live in the present.
How have you grown during your time at SPU? My time at SPU has taught me to not have any limits to what I can do and to embrace as many opportunities as possible. I’ve learned that in order to grow, you have to be comfortable with the uncomfortable and understand that everyone’s just figuring it out as life goes on. The person I am today is a combination of my professors, friends, and family who continue to support me, teach me many lessons, and most importantly let me grow in my own unique way.
