Yari Moreno

Christina Valdez

Major(s): Physiology, Honors-Liberal Arts

"I have been blessed to have research built into my classes in the physiology major, whether that be purifying proteins in the biochemistry lab or running a plaque assay in virology. Having the opportunity to not just learn techniques but also apply them to create new knowledge has been an invaluable experience."

Holly Walworth

Major(s): Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Honors-BA

"My most impactful class was probably Intermediate physics and quantum mechanics which helped me realize I wanted to add the physics major. I thought the concepts were so interesting, and I really appreciated how my professors encouraged me to go further in my education."

Greg Torres

Major: Business Administration

"During my time at Seattle Pacific University, I think I’ve grown a lot by learning more about who I am as a person. Growth can feel slow in the moment, but one day you look back and realize how far you’ve come. My faith has also played a big role in that growth by helping me become more grounded, reflective, and intentional in the way I approach life and relationships."

Kingston Christie

Major(s): KinesiologyTheology, Honors-Liberal Arts

"SPU has aided in my growth as a young man and a disciple of Jesus. Through the opportunities I have been given, the connections made with peers and faculty, and the memories I can never replace, SPU has been a formative place of personal, intellectual, and spiritual development for me."

Isaac Gomez

Major: Physiology, minors in chemistry and sociology

"The most impactful part of my time at SPU has been the multidisciplinary approach to my education. Professors like Dr. Wall-Scheffler (in human physiology and biological anthropology) and Dr. Neuhouser (in sociology of Latin America and community development) collectively shaped my worldview by bridging the gap between biological functions and societal structures, allowing me to apply complex concepts to everyday human interactions and preparing me to work more effectively with diverse populations, especially in healthcare."

Scarlett Amezcua

Major: Physiology

"SPU has shaped me into the person I am today by showing me that faith and science are not separate, but can fundamentally complement one another. The community I have found here has brought me lifelong friendships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, who have taught me and inspire me so much."

Emily Haan

Major: Theatre education, sociology, and Honors Liberal Arts with a minor in English literature

"While I’ve grown immensely as a theatre maker and sociologist (I didn’t know what sociology was pre-SPU), I’ve experienced the most growth in the ways my classes have formed me into a better community member, learner, and Christian."

Marissa Wendland

Major: Psychology, Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience

"Once I started exploring the many opportunities SPU has, whether it be a club, an on-campus job, or a research lab, I was able to open so many new doors for myself and make valuable connections with my professors and peers."

Ethan Erickson

Major(s): Computer science, Honors Liberal Arts, minor in data analytics

"I love computer science because it allows me to translate my imagination into tangible programs that users can interact with. Because everything is online nowadays, I believe my major will allow me to make a significant impact."

Ryan Fecarotta

Major. Computer science

"My favorite thing about computer science is building projects from the ground up. As part of our Senior Software Engineering course, I (with a team of five amazing classmates) developed a fencing video game completely from scratch.

Gretta Denton

Major: History with a certification in Secondary Education and a minor in political science

"The History Department and Division of Education have brought me so much community at SPU. The students and professors in these areas have been such as foundation for who I am and want to be as I graduate."

Alison Sapier

Major: Business administration

"There have been numerous enjoyable and impactful classes throughout my time at SPU, but one that especially stands out is Business Ethics with Professor Wong. Learning how to make ethical and sustainable decisions in business is something I will carry with me as I graduate and apply in the real world."

Max Vance

Major(s): Double major in music with a dual emphasis in cello performance & composition, Honors Liberal Arts.

"If there were any advice to give, it would be to remember that you’re part of a community of people with similar goals. Don’t be afraid of new people. Instead, be the first to ask a question. You may end up just seeing them around, or maybe you will have gained a new friend."

Mackenzie Cummings

Degree: PhD in Clinical Psychology

"I have developed a new level of confidence in myself as a person, researcher, and clinician. I feel more grounded in who I am, and while there will always be room to grow, I feel like I have become someone that my first-year self would be proud of."

Avery Elliott

Major(s): Art and psychology

"My time at SPU has helped me grow in my faith, grow in community, and grow in my vocational calling. My professors and peers played a huge part in this, and I will be forever grateful to them."
