What was your most impactful class or professor? The most impactful class I took at SPU was Honors 3000: Faith and Science taught by Dr. Baker. From the depth of the material that we looked at, the creative ways that we approached the topics, and the tough questions of faith, consciousness, the soul, and ontology — no other class has forced me to reckon with my beliefs in such an uncomfortable but productive way.
What do you enjoy most about your major? What I most enjoyed about my kinesiology major was the attention to detail that my professors brought to each and every aspect of the program. From our lectures to our labs, presentations, and hands-on activities, no stone was left unturned in the pursuit of academic excellence, and I have greatly benefitted as a result.
For my Honors major, I have always enjoyed the questions raised by each of the professors and the way that they incorporate their specific disciplines into the broader conversation of what does it mean to be human, and how do we live together in deep difference.
Throughout my time in the theology major I have enjoyed the way that the professors genuinely express their love for God and their students through the courses. The classes aren’t simply knowledge-based observations of the Christian tradition, but an expressive form of walking with Christ through their perspectives on the subject matter we are learning.
How have you grown during your time at SPU? SPU has aided in my growth as a young man and a disciple of Jesus. Through the opportunities I have been given, the connections made with peers and faculty, and the memories I can never replace, SPU has been a formative place of personal, intellectual, and spiritual development for me.
What are you excited for in your future career? I am excited to continue to learn and grow as God uses my education to bless those that I meet throughout my career. I am excited to help people realize the full potential of their bodies, and in doing so, flourish in the way that God designed them to.
What advice do you have for incoming students? God brought you to SPU for a reason. The opportunities provided by being on a small campus, where you can truly connect with your peers, professors, and community at large are a special thing. You could have been anywhere else in the world, but you were brought here for a purpose, and the discovery of that purpose in and of itself is worth pursuing with your full being: heart, soul, mind, and body. Make the most of the opportunity that you’ve been blessed with.
