What was your most impactful class or professor? There are no words to fully describe Dr. Tenlen’s role in my journey at SPU. She has been vital to my education and has served as an inspiration inside and outside of the classroom. Her kindness, knowledge, and enthusiasm are truly unparalleled.

What do you enjoy most about your major? Physiology is incredibly fascinating and has such a significant impact on the world around us. I have loved learning about a world beyond what is visible to the naked eye, developing problem-solving skills, and becoming an evidence-based scientist. I have also appreciated being challenged through rigorous coursework that has pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of.

What are you excited for in your future career? I am looking forward to use the knowledge and skills I have gained to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others by continuing to pursue my calling of serving underserved communities and further my education in the healthcare field. I also hope to use my voice to advocate for greater diversity in research.

How have you grown during your time at SPU? SPU has shaped me into the person I am today by showing me that faith and science are not separate, but can fundamentally complement one another. The community I have found here has brought me lifelong friendships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, who have taught me and inspire me so much. Through my time at SPU, I have developed discipline, perseverance, and resilience.

What advice do you have for incoming students? Joshua 1:9. Comparison is the thief of joy, and gratitude is the fuel of joy. Enjoy every step of the journey: the good, the bad, and the ugly. The greatest growth comes from the moments that challenge you in the most unexpected ways. Take negative thoughts captive and renew your mind with the Word!
