Hometown: Federal Way, Washington
Major: Computer science
Campus Activities: former editor-in-chief of Lingua, DJ with KSPU, and ASSP president.
What was your most impactful class or professor? My most impactful class was Writing 1100, taught by Professor Jeffrey Overstreet. Overstreet made the learning experience so much fun and gave me a real sense of community in my first quarter at SPU.
What do you enjoy most about your major? My favorite thing about computer science is building projects from the ground up. Seeing something evolve from nothing into a fully functional program is a magical experience. As part of our Senior Software Engineering course, I (with a team of five amazing classmates) developed a fencing video game completely from scratch. Seeing it go from nothing all the way to a complete, fun, video game was such an incredible experience.
What advice do you have for incoming students? My advice for incoming students is to get involved. Talk to people, find your senator, go to the ASSP office, go to events, go to a Falcon meeting, submit to Lingua, DJ for KSPU, become a part of a club; There is so much going on around campus if you look for it. Even if you're a commuter like me, there is a place for you. SPU truly comes alive when you get involved with different groups.
