What was your most impactful class or professor? I think one of my most impactful classes was Faith and Science taught by Dr. Phillip Baker, since it discussed the intersection of neuroscience, philosophy, and theology, and introduced me to different paradigms for viewing ourselves and the world. Some of my favorite professors are Jeffrey Overstreet, Carlos Arias, Kevin Neuhouser, and Alissa Walter.
What do you enjoy most about your major? I love computer science because it allows me to translate my imagination into tangible programs that users can interact with. Because everything is online nowadays, I believe my major will allow me to make a significant impact.
How have you grown during your time at SPU? During my time at SPU and specifically the Honors program, I feel that I have grown holistically as a person and expanded my skills in writing, science, music, and interdisciplinary thinking. I know my experiences here will influence how I engage, lead, and serve others beyond college.
What are you excited for in your future career? After graduation, I plan to start working as a full-time software engineer at Microsoft (within Identity and Network Access) in late summer! I want to continue expanding my knowledge across my interests of cybersecurity, machine learning, and game development.
What advice do you have for incoming students? My advice is to meet as many new people as you can and try out different clubs, church groups, and opportunities early on. While it is great to say “yes” to things, doing everything can risk spreading yourself too thin, so it is okay to say “no” to some opportunities to invest yourself deeply in the ones that feel the most rewarding.
