Julie Kae Sigars has been seen and heard in opera, operetta, musicals, oratorio, recitals, galas, solo orchestra appearances, pop concerts, cabaret supper clubs, and commercials. She as appeared in numerous roles with the Tacoma Opera and Everett Opera, including Susanna ("Marriage of Figaro") and Adele (Die Fledermaus). With NOISE (Northwest Opera in Schools, Etc.), Ms. Sigars has toured Western Washington elementary schools in condensed versions of well-known operas. She has sung Mimi with Seattle Opera’s touring educational program. Other appearances include engagements with the Bellevue Philharmonic, Cascade Symphony, Seattle Bach Choir, Philharmonia Northwest, and the Everett Chorale.
A native Texan, she has music degrees from the University of North Texas and Northern Arizona University, and a master of divinity from Seattle University's School of Theology and Ministry. Ms. Sigars is a member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) and has served on the local board of the Puget Sound Chapter. She is also a member of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM) and has served on PAM's National Board.
Ordained in the Presbyterian Church USA as a Teaching Elder (Minister of Word and Sacrament), Rev. Sigars has prepared and led numerous worship services within the North Puget Sound Presbytery and the Alaska/PNW Synod, and at national PAM conferences. She was also on the board and faculty of the Seattle University School of Theology Summer Liturgy and Worship Institute for each conference.
Currently an adjunct professor at Seattle Pacific University, Rev. Sigars is Associate Pastor of Music and Worship at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, and also maintains a private voice studio. She is married to local writer and columnist Chuck Sigars, and has two grown children.
Classes taught at SPU: "Music and Worship," "Song of the Church," "Fine Arts and the Christian Community," "Exploring and Understanding Music," and beginning voice. She also gives private vocal instruction.
