Bob Smithing

Bob Smithing has been a family nurse practitioner (FNP) since 1981. He has expertise in the varied practice of primary care. He especially enjoys working with teenagers, women’s health, mental health and precepting nurse practitioner students.

Bob has received many honors and awards for his leadership and contributions to the field of nursing in the past 30 years. He is a past president of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and served on the founding board of the American College of Nurse Practitioners.

Bob is a recipient of the Sharp Cutting Edge Leadership Award – an award given once a year by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (formerly the American College of Nurse Practitioners) and bestowed upon an outstanding nurse who has demonstrated leadership above and beyond. He is also the recipient of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners’ Washington State Outstanding Nurse Practitioner award.

In addition, Bob is a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP), a prestigious honor held only by only 1 of 500 nurse practitioners in the United States. He was also mentioned in Seattle magazine's article "Top Doctors: The Super Nurse."

Bob is a past president of the Washington State nurse practitioner group ARNPs United of Washington State and is their current executive director.

Bob is an instructor with Seattle Pacific University, the University of Washington, Pacific Lutheran University, and Seattle University, educating the next generation of family nurse practitioners. Several times a year, he can be found teaching classes on IUD placement, women’s health, suturing, biopsies, and a variety of other topics.
