What is SNAP4KIDS-2?

Our current study — SNAP4KIDS-2 — looks at how kids ages 10–14 handle both stress and positive events. Participation will include visits to SPU, where

  • Your child will answer questions on a computer while we measure heart rate and skin conductance
  • You will answer questions about your child’s development
  • Your child will answer questions from home on a smart phone

Using Smartphones in Research

We can learn a lot about how kids think and feel through questionnaires and lab visits. But much of our lives happen in the moment, in real time. To better understand how kids think and feel in their everyday lives, researchers have started using smartphones to administer short (usually 5 minutes or less) surveys asking kids to “check in” about what they are doing and how they are feeling at that moment. This gives researchers much better information about the emotional lives of kids.
