Seattle Pacific University’s School of Psychology, Family, and Community presents Voices of Autism: Individuals, Families, and Professionals. This annual event features a community resource fair and keynote lecture to share the experiences and perspectives of members within the autism community.

Dr. Brooks has worked with hundreds of individuals with autism (and other neurodevelopmental disorders) and their families and educational and clinical care teams. From these experiences, Dr. Brooks will provide her perspective on what information can help parents/caregivers advocate for and access appropriate educational services and supports for their children with autism spectrum disorders in this introductory level session.

Keynote lecture by Allison Brooks, PhD., licensed psychologist
“You Are Your Child’s Most Important Educational Advocate: Notes for Parents of Children with Autism, from a Psychologist’s 32 Years in Clinics and Schools”
Dr. Brooks is a licensed psychologist who earned her PhD in school psychology from the University of Washington, and completed clinical internships in medical centers in and near Seattle. Throughout her career, Allison has focused primarily on the needs of individuals who have neurodevelopmental disorders and related mental health conditions. She has extensive experience providing clinical services to individuals and families and the educational and care teams of individuals with autism spectrum disorders, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD, and anxiety and mood disorders. She has served as the Clinic Director for the UW Autism Center’s Tacoma satellite clinic, Director of Professional Training for the UW Autism Center, and lead psychologist in the UW Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Diagnostic and Prevention Network. Allison co-founded Brooks Powers Group in 2006. She heads the Clinical Services team, where she conducts and supervises neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessment as well as providing, supervising, and coordinating treatment for children and adolescents and their families.
