EDU 7971: Advanced Qualitative Research (2019-2020)

This course addresses theory and practice of qualitative research fieldwork and data gathering. Complementing the foundation of qualitative research design provided in EDU 7974, this course will focus is on the practical, hands-on considerations associated with writing research proposals, entering the field, coordinating fieldwork, techniques of data collection, and data management. A review of the primary methods including Grounded Theory, Narrative, Case Study, Ethnography, and Phenomenology will be presented and additional approaches will be introduced. Students will participate in the IRB approval process and engage in a qualitative research project throughout the term resulting in a manuscript for publication consideration.
