What is your major?
Major: Journalism. Minor: Political Science
What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
I wish I knew how much real world experience the journalism major at SPU would afford me. Through The Falcon (SPU's student newspaper)and the incredible journalism courses at SPU, I got the opportunity to utilize and develop new skills in practical and real situations.
What was your most impactful class or professor?
Dr. Peg Achterman, Dr. Sara Shaban, Dr. Matthew Bellinger, Dr. Bill Purcell, Dr. Reed Davis and Dr. Ruth Ediger have all changed my life through their incredible courses and personable approach to helping students succeed.
What are you excited about in your future career?
I am excited about where my career is going to take me and all the different things I am going to learn as a journalist and as a person. I hope to work in sports and give kids the same joy I had as a kid by covering their favorite athletes and telling stories that inspire and move people.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Get after it! Nobody is going to hand you opportunity. Go out there and pursue your passions with passion. Do not be afraid to talk to people in positions of power and influence or to market yourself. Above all, have a positive attitude, and remember no matter how many times people say "no" you only need one person to believe in you and say "yes."
How have your grown during your time at SPU?
I have grown in so many indescribable ways at SPU. I truly believe the faculty at this university taught me how to think. Note I did not say they taught me what to think, Instead they gave me the tools to form my own opinions and viewpoints given available information. I look forward to using these skills in the future as I leave this university.
