The annual Burton and Ralene Walls Distinguished Speaker Series Luncheon will feature Glenn Lurie, President & CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Operations on Thursday, March 30.  This is our 16th year of introducing outstanding business leaders to our students.

With nearly 25 years of experience in wireless communications, Glenn Lurie oversees all mobile product offerings and consumer market operations, as well as sales, service, and distribution for AT&T Entertainment Group.

Lurie began his career with McCaw Cellular, in the early days of the wireless industry. Over the course of two decades, he helped to usher in the smartphone era and took a leading role in the beginning of the IoT (Internet of Things) business, bringing wireless connectivity to tablets, cars, and gadgets. He also launched AT&T Digital Life ¬(AT&T’s home automation and security business) and Aio Wireless (now Cricket Wireless), among other successful businesses.

When the first iPhone and iPad were introduced, Lurie led negotiations to bring both devices to AT&T. In 2007, he launched the Emerging Devices Organization (now IoT), a business unit focused on connecting new products to the AT&T network. This included tablets, cars, wellness devices, wearables, and a variety of M2M (machine-to-machine) solutions.

Before his current appointment, Lurie served as president & CEO of AT&T Mobility, led AT&T’s Emerging Enterprises and Partnerships Organization, held responsibility for AT&T-owned Cricket Wireless, and oversaw AT&T’s relationship with TracFone and Apple.

In 2014, Lurie was named one of 10 “Mobile Game Changers” by Russell Reynolds Associates for his mobile-first approach to developing innovative services that enhance the way people live. He was also named to the Global Telecom Business “Power 100” list in 2011, 2012, and 2013, awarded Wireless Week’s Telecom Leadership Award in 2010, and received the Atlanta Telecom Professional of the Year Award in 2009. Lurie is active in industry associations and in the community. He is currently chairman of CTIA (an international industry trade group) and the 2018 chair-elect of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, where he also serves as chairman of the Mobility Task Force. He is a member of both the executive advisory board of Curing Kids Cancer and the board of the Atlanta Concorde Fire Soccer Club.

Prior to entering the wireless industry, Lurie was a professional soccer player for teams representing Cleveland, Atlanta, Milwaukee and Portland. He holds a bachelor of arts in business/marketing from Seattle Pacific University.
