Governor Jay Inslee directs that Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff in memory in of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Matthew V. Thompson, 28, of Irvine, California, He died in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, when an IED detonated near his dismounted patrol. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 7, 2016, in Lacey, Washington.
