View all UCOL classes

This course, a weekly discussion-based seminar, introduces first-year college students to learning in an academic community. In this colloquium, students will explore the portrayal of teachers and the schools in popular movies to identify how they send mixed messages and reinforce stereotypes in society. Along with watching clips of film, students will examine and interrogate educational policy, the role of school, and educational practices through class discussions. Students will also engage in planning coursework, choosing majors and minors, laying out their academic path, working with faculty, and connecting with campus resources.
