About Micah Schaafsma

Micah Schaafsma

Micah is the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology, leading the Computer and Information Systems department at Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, WA. He serves as the liaison between central IT and executive leadership, providing vision, direction, and strategy for integrating technology and business intelligence into all areas of campus operations. 

Since joining SPU in 2004 as a software developer, he has held a number of roles, including Director of Software Systems, Director of Enterprise Systems, and Deputy CIO. Micah also serves as a member of the institution's University Advisory Council and the Core Support Operations Team.

In his time at SPU, Micah has focused on improving operational efficiency, organizational transparency, and on pivoting IT from a service provider role into a strategic business partner aligned with institutional goals and preparing the institution for the digital information age of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Along the way, he has streamlined the IT department's operations, implemented DevOps/agile methodologies to improve efficiency, reduced service outages, increased IT project success rates, and improved outcomes through data-driven decision making.

In his spare time Micah volunteers as an ambassador for ShelterBox USA and as a motorcycle trackday instructor for Optimum Performance Rider Training.

Micah holds an Executive MBA from University of Washington, Michael G. Foster School of Business, and a BA in Computer Science and Systems from Seattle Pacific University.
