Orientation Schedule — Parents & Guests

8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Check-in and Move-in
Upper Gwinn and Residential Areas

Students with last names A–L can move in between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., and those with last names M–Z can move in between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Commuter students are welcome to check in between 12 and 12:30 p.m.

  • On-campus residential students: Check-in held in Upper Gwinn for all residential halls and apartments. Access to your residence hall will be available only starting at your scheduled check-in time and not before.
  • Commuter students: Our commuter students are expected to attend the full Orientation program and can check in Friday from 12 to 12:30 p.m. and are invited to participate in afternoon programming, explore campus, and join the Welcome Dinner in the evening.

Extended hours on Friday (8 a.m.–6 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.–5 p.m.) during Orientation! 


Open Houses (11 a.m.–4:30 p.m.)

  • Academic Counseling Open House (11 a.m.–2 p.m.), Demaray Hall, second floor: Meet the academic counselors dedicated to helping you from your first quarter to graduation.
  • Admissions Table (11:30 a.m.–2 p.m.), Martin Square: Talk to Undergraduate Admissions staff, get questions answered, or just say hi to your admissions counselor!
  • Library Tours (12–4 p.m.), Ames Library: Discover more about the SPU Library, including its technology and study spaces for individual and collaborative work.
  • Academic Support Table (12:30–4:30 p.m.), Moyer Hall: Meet staff in the Center for Student Success and learn about tutor-led study tables, academic coaching, and more.
  • For Parents of Students in the Pre-Professional Health Sciences Program (1–2 p.m.), Ames Library, Seminar Room, second floor: Learn how SPU prepares students for medical, dental, and other health careers.
  • Health Services Table (3–4 p.m.), Watson Hall, first floor: Meet the health care providers in Health Services and learn about their services.
  • Student Counseling Center Open House (3:30–4:30 p.m.), Watson Hall, first floor: Meet staff from the Student Counseling Center and discover their services.

Student Services Fair

Come learn about all the amazing resources and supportive staff you have available to you during your time here and beyond. Our team is here for you, and at our Student Services Fair you can learn all about opportunities and resources you have at SPU.


2–3:30 p.m.

Academic Reception and Forum
Upper Gwinn

Meet our academic leadership and faculty for refreshments, information about our vibrant academic life on campus, and guest lecture demonstrations.  


3:30–4:30 p.m.

Student Financial Services Workshop
Upper Gwinn

Students and Guests are welcome to come learn about Financial Aid packages, navigating their Student Account, and exploring options for on-campus Student Employment. 


3:30–4:30 p.m.

Student Counseling Center Open House
Watson Hall, first floor

Meet staff from the Student Counseling Center and learn about how they support student wellness through free and confidential counseling to SPU undergraduate students, by way of consultation, referrals, and campus engagement.


4:45–6 p.m.

Welcome Dinner

Enjoy a complimentary dinner and connect with other new students and their families. Dinner times are assigned to students and their guests according to their check-in times. If you have an early check-in time (8:30 a.m.–10:30 a.m.), you’ll be invited to begin dinner at 5 p.m. If your student has a late-morning or early afternoon check-in time (10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.), you’ll be invited to begin dinner at 5:30 p.m.
