Quinn Laulainen

Quinn Laulainen What is your major?
BA in Psychology with a concentration in Community Psychology and Behavioral Health, and a minor in Human Development and Family Studies.

What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
Psychology has a little bit of everything! Whether you’re interested in development, research, neuroscience, or anything to do with people, one piece or another is going to pique your interest.

What was your most impactful class or professor?
Cross-Cultural Psychology with Dr. Kim has been one of the best classes I’ve taken, and I think it should be a required course for all majors!

What are some of your career goals?
I will be attending Eastern Washington University this coming September to get my master's in clinical mental health counseling, in the hopes I can become a mental health counselor for adolescents! I would love to eventually open a private practice to work with children in marginalized communities.

What advice do you have for incoming students?
Don’t be afraid to change your mind! I changed my major three separate times and it is OK to not stick with the same major you enter college with. Take the time to take classes outside of your intended major, you might find a subject you never knew you loved!

What SPU has meant to you?
SPU has been such a great place for change and personal growth, and I would not have had the opportunity to meet some of my closest friends if I had chosen to go elsewhere. I'm so thankful for the education I’ve gained and the people I’ve had the chance to meet while at SPU.
