graduate What is your major?
Major: Computer Science

What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
Computer Science isn't just about writing code. It's also about designing systems and interfaces and understanding how people interact with technology. It's not a boring one-person job, but a team effort that involves a lot of communication and collaboration in order to bring a functional application to life. It's an emotional roller coaster, but the joy you experience at the end of the day, when your software is delivered, is worth it.

What was your most impactful class or professor?
All professors and classes at SPU have played a role in my journey, but Andy Cameron, assistant professor computer science was the most impactful professor. He not only taught valuable computer science skills but also trained me in successful project management. His teachings have truly resonated with me, and he offered a flexible hybrid class allowing students to manage their time effectively. He is very dedicated in setting up a high-quality hybrid environment for students to ensure that they have the best audio and video experience.

What are you excited for in your career goals?
I'm really excited to graduate and start working in developing software. I have so many ideas for apps that could help people, especially in places like Vietnam and smaller areas like my hometown.

What advice do you have for incoming students?
Never hesitate to seek help. Whether you're struggling with classwork, finances, your career path, or even personal issues, SPU has resources to help you succeed.

How have your grown during your time at SPU?
My time at SPU started during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it was tough. I was shy, and I didn't interact much with others. Then, I failed a class because I was worried about my family's financial problems. I thought about giving up and going back to Vietnam. Fortunately, attending my friend's graduation last year gave me the motivation to keep going. That's when I decided to step out of my comfort zone, to reach out, to ask for help. I discovered a wealth of support at SPU, from the counseling center to the financial office. Overcoming these obstacles has allowed me to grow a lot, both personally and professionally. So, here I am today, ready to graduate, thanks to the wonderful people at SPU, my co-workers at CPE, and my dedicated software engineering team.
