Mike Wierusz Named STEM-PD Pioneer

SOE BulletinInglemoor High School teacher Mike Wierusz ’09 was one of six educators selected as a STEM - PD Pioneer.

Participating teachers around the state will be able to observe Mike’s real-time classroom and be coached by him in their own classrooms through new state-of-the-art technology.

One key to Mike’s success and selection as a STEM-PD Pioneer is his emphasis on foundational concepts, content, and tools at the beginning of the year, followed by collaborative project work. He writes his blog,“The Future,” in an honest and engaging voice, incorporating enough passion and humility to give the sense that he is great at what he does, but also a genuine guy.

In his most recent post, Mike noted that he has been too busy to write much lately because, “The students this year are just super-motivated.” According to Inglemoor Principal Vicki Sherwood, “He just lets them go on the projects, lets them explore and discover answers on their own. It’s pretty courageous on his part.”

Mike switched careers from engineering to teaching when he was in his 30s, and says “I’m in my zone now.”
