Admission to University Scholars

University Scholars
Each year, up to 40 exceptional incoming students are invited to join Seattle Pacific’s University Scholars program—a four-year, sequenced course of study. Entrance to the program is based upon academic potential, writing ability, and interest. You may qualify.

If you are honors-eligible, you will be invited to apply to the program after you have been admitted to Seattle Pacific University. There are currently only 40 spots available every year —
and there is usually a waiting list — so if you are interested you should apply to the program as soon as possible.

Invitations are currently given to only two student groups, but we always want to hear from you if you are interested and think you might be a good fit for the honors program. Please contact the program director Christine Chaney directly at to learn more.

Invitations are currently given to:

  • A limited number of highly motivated high school seniors accepted to SPU with outstanding grade point averages and college-entrance exam scores who also show an interest and aptitude for interdisciplinary learning in a liberal arts context.
  • First-year SPU students whose early college work demonstrates that they are academically gifted with an interest and aptitude for interdisciplinary learning in a liberal arts context.

How to Apply

Once you have received an invitation to apply to University Scholars, you are encouraged to complete the three-part online application that includes:

  1. A cover sheet
  2. Your application letter, explaining why you want to join University Scholars, and why you are confident of achieving success in the program (attach within the application form)
  3. Your writing sample (attach within the application form)
