Caleb Paul

graduate What is your major?
Double Major: Music education and piano performance

What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
While not necessarily about my major, I wish more people took advantage of the concerts that students put on every single quarter. Not only are these opportunities to hear some beautiful music, but you also get to support your peers by listening to the music they've worked so hard to create.

What was your most impactful class or professor?
I am incredibly grateful for all the relationships I have built with my professors in the Music (and Education) departments; however, I have been extremely inspired by Dr. Myrna Capp, adjunct assistant professor of music and adjunct instructor of piano. Dr. Capp was the person who first encouraged me to add a Piano Performance major and has shown so much support and interest in my future career.

What are you excited about in your future career?
After graduating, I hope to be teaching general music in a public elementary school for grades K-5. I spent my last year at SPU student teaching at an elementary school in Shoreline and loved it. I found the experience to be incredibly fulfilling and cannot wait to be teaching in my own classroom one day!

How have your grown during your time at SPU?
During my time at SPU, I have learned I am capable of more than I realized. I am grateful for the professors that pushed me to my limits, helping me to accomplish goals I didn't realize were feasible. Additionally, I have grown to think outside the box a little bit more. Many of the classes I took (regarding music education specifically) challenged me to think differently, encouraging me to go outside my comfort zone.
