Dr. Maria Hartley is passionate about advancing health equity through systems-based healthcare transformation, community-based participatory research, and the education of future nurse leaders. Dr. Hartley’s research background is based on qualitative methodologies and community-based participatory research (CBPR) approaches focused on improving health outcomes for marginalized communities. Examples of her work include leading the qualitative data analysis for the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing study, It’s WeWomen Plus, which evaluated the acceptance and feasibility of a mobile safety planning app for immigrant survivors of intimate partner violence. She also designed and led a CBPR study focused on understanding the multi-level health effects of community violence (CV) and developing a culturally tailored trauma-informed intervention to address CV in urban primary care settings.

Dr. Hartley loves God, her family, and her dog. She deeply enjoys learning about people, exploring new places, and sharing in community with others. New to the Pacific Northwest, she is open to any suggestions for exploration and adventure. And most of all, she is excited to collaborate and learn from the fellow faculty and students at Seattle Pacific University.
