The School of Education offers more than a dozen graduate programs. You can choose from two doctoral programs, nine master’s degree programs, and seven certification programs, all of which focus on developing the competence, character, leadership, and service of educators.
Policy on acceptance of transfer credits
The School of Education will only accept graduate- or doctoral-level transfer courses from regionally accredited institutions. All courses must be taken for credit and a regular letter or numeric grade. Pass/Fail or satisfactory grades are not accepted. A minimum grade of C (2.0) is required. Individual programs may require a higher grade.
At the discretion of your program chair, the School of Education may accept a maximum (rounding down) of one third of the total number of required credits in your graduate degree, graduate certificate, or doctoral degree program. For example, a graduate program that requires 60 credits may accept up to 20 credits of transfer coursework. A doctoral program that requires 90 credits may accept up to 30 credits of transfer coursework.
All credits are listed in quarter hours. Credits earned at semester schools will be converted to quarter hours. In all cases, official transcripts must be provided, and in some cases, course syllabi will be required for evaluation.
The combined total of accepted transfer credits and accepted 5000-level coursework may not exceed one third of the total number of required credits in your program.
Policy on use of 5000-level SPU credits
Graduate degrees in the School of Education may accept up to 12 credits of 5000-level (professional development) coursework taken at SPU through the Center for Professional Education. Doctoral programs do not accept professional development courses, either from SPU or elsewhere. Courses taken at SPU at the 5000 level are not eligible for financial aid, nor do these courses contribute to credit load for calculating financial aid. In addition, 5000-level courses are not eligible for loan deferment. Tuition for 5000-level courses is due at registration. For questions about implications on financial aid, email sfs-info@spu.edu.
