User Expectations

All users of the SPU Library are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful of other library users and library staff and maintains an environment that is conducive to learning.

Animals

Animals are not permitted in the SPU Library, except for service animals in accordance with campus policy.

Bicycles

Bicycles (and other non-medical wheeled transportation) are not permitted in the library. A bicycle rack is available outside Weter Hall, across from the C-Store, for your convenience.

Cell Phones

The use of cell/mobile phones in the library should be limited to avoid disrupting other users. Please be aware that because of the open layout of our library, sound carries very easily. Accordingly, spaces such as the stairwell and the vestibule inside the main doors tend to amplify sound and are not suitable for private conversations.

Defacing Materials

Please keep in mind that the resources in the SPU Library are provided for shared use within our university and consortium. Accordingly, please refrain from defacing or damaging library materials including, but not limited to, underlining, highlighting, writing, removing pages, or security devices.

Emergencies

In case of emergency or campus safety drills, all library users are expected to comply with the instructions of the building emergency coordinators and Library staff.

Food/Drink

Food and drink are welcome in the building provided they are not messy, odorous, or otherwise compromising the safety and cleanliness of materials or distracting other users. We ask that liquids be kept in covered containers and that you notify staff immediately of spills.

Furniture

Please take care to leave library furniture and spaces in the same condition and configuration as you found them.

Noise

Please be aware that because of the open layout of our library, sound carries very easily. Library patrons should always try to keep conversations to a low tone and respectful requests for additional quiet should be honored. While study rooms are good places for group work, please be aware that the rooms are not sound proof and others in the area may be distracted by loud conversations, music, etc.

Personal Items

Please do not leave personal items unattended. Any items that appear abandoned will be collected by staff and placed in the Library’s lost & found.

Printing

All copying/printing on campus, including in the library, is administered by CIS and is payable with Falcon Funds or PaperCut credit attached to a student account. To access these funds, students must use their SeaPac Pass or SPU Username and Password. Guests will need to set up a PaperCut Guest Printing account. $1, $5, and $10 cards of PaperCut credit may be purchased at the Library Circulation Desk or Tech Desk.

Report Suspicious Behavior

Any suspicious behavior should be reported immediately to Library staff and/or Safety & Security (x2911).

Sign Posting

If you have a campus event you would like to advertise, please submit your signs at the Circulation Desk for approval.  Signs should be limited to 11x17” in size and include all relevant contact information.  Due to space constraints, official SPU activities will receive priority, followed by other local events of interest to the SPU community, space permitting.
