Area Councils

In the residence areas, students are selected to provide effective leadership through their Area Council.

When you join your Area Council, you will have an opportunity to join a community of leaders and influence where you are living for the academic year. You can become actively involved in addressing issues and planning events at the individual hall level. Involvement your Area Council also provides you with great opportunities to develop your leadership skills.

Help to make the SPU residential community feel welcoming to approximately 1,300 residents across all residence areas!

Providing leadership

Area Councils provide leadership in their areas by:

  • Working with other area student leaders (RAs and SMCs) and professional staff to identify and respond to the specific needs of students.
  • Interacting with their peers to promote a living and learning environment that supports healthy community.
  • Planning area, hall and campus-wide programs and activities that emphasize spiritual, intellectual, and social growth.
  • Displaying and modeling the attributes of a healthy and balanced lifestyle in accordance with University expectations.
  • Practicing good stewardship in the allocation and management of the residence area resources with which they are entrusted.
