Each year, the School of Business, Government, and Economics at Seattle Pacific University selects two of its gifted alumni which exemplify the competency and character which sets them and their SPU alumni peers apart.
We continue this fairly new tradition of honoring an Alum of the Year and a Young Alum of the Year.
Our criteria for these awards is consistent with SPU’s criteria for their similar awards. Nominations were reviewed by a selection committee and vetted according to these criteria.
- Excellence in their field
- Walking out Christian faith and mission
- Service to SBGE
- Service to the world
Alum of the Year
Ken Hart
SBGE 2016-2017
Alumnus of the Year
Ken Hart received a degree in Business Administration (Finance emphasis) from Seattle Pacific University in 1993 from the School of Business and Economics. Upon graduating, Ken transitioned quickly into the world of personal finance, starting his career at Cornerstone Advisors. Today, over 23 years later, Cornerstone is still home; he is now blessed to serve as the firm’s Chief Executive Officer. Over his more than two decades of service, Ken has led Cornerstone to become not only one of the region’s largest and flourishing independent wealth management companies, but a firm focused on enabling their employees and clients to make the very most of their time and resources.
Although originally from of Phoenix, AZ, Ken has made the Seattle area his home for nearly three decades. With roots in our local community, Ken has been the most passionately involved with the FareStart organization, where he currently serves as the President Elect of their board of directors and member of their finance and investment committees. He has also been blessed to be able to serve in less formal advisory capacities with Bellevue LifeSpring and Washington’s National Parks Fund in recent years.
Ken is married to Julie (DeFina) Hart [SPU class of 1992]. They have two terrific teenage daughters – Taylor, a freshman at Texas Christian University and Ella, a freshman at Issaquah High School. Ken and Julie reside in Issaquah. The family attends church at City Church in Kirkland.
Ken and Cornerstone have been champions of Seattle Pacific University – hiring several of our graduates as employees, being part of the mentorship program, guest speaking in the Investments class, and serving as proud sponsors of the Downtown Business Breakfast since its founding.

Anne-Marie Trimnell
SBGE 2016-2017
Young Alumna of the Year
Anne-Marie graduated with Bachelor degrees in both Accounting and in Business Administration, from Seattle Pacific University in 2009 from the School of Business, Government, and Economics. With a love for Accounting, Anne-Marie has continued to grow in her seven year career at the Public Accounting Firm KPMG LLP in Seattle. During her time at KPMG, she has helped develop a team of three into a team of over 15 individuals, using her faith to express her strong care in her work, and using the opportunity given to her to become certified as a Global Payroll Human Resource Specialist.
A native of England, UK, and the daughter of an accomplished ex-veterinarian and current parasitologist, Anne-Marie lives in Everett with her Mum and two little dogs but continues to attend her long time Parish church of 14 years, St. Margaret of Scotland Church. She uses her passion for Accounting to currently serve on her Parish Finance Committee. Additionally, in her role at KPMG, she has had the privilege of mentoring a senior in the School of Business, Government, and Economics this past year, and enjoys participating as a reviewer for the SPU Social Venture Plan Competition for the last two years. She looks forward to future opportunities to be involved with SBGE and to help with their mission in developing faith-based change makers in the world.
