SBE Alumnus to Lead Team in Nepal

Kyle Hansen ’09, a Seattle Pacific SBE alumnus, works for Action International Ministries (ACTION), a missionary-sending organization with 250 missionaries in 25 countries worldwide. ACTION focuses on ministering to children in crisis, pastoral leadership development, and sustainable community development. Kyle works as the International Short-term Coordinator out of ACTION’s USA office in Mountlake Terrace (Greater Seattle), and next March he plans to lead a team of business professionals exploring social enterprise opportunities with an ethnically Tibetan ACTION worker in Nepal.

Kyle has a vibrant ministry in the Himalayas, where he and his ministry partners are planting churches and assisting orphans and widows in several of the mountainous regions close to the Nepal-Tibet border. Four of our MAM-SSM alumni (representing every class) are joining on this Sherpa-guided Himalayan mountain “business as mission” trip.

The purpose of Kyle’s team (made up of the four SPU MAM-SSM alumni and three others) will be to see the ACTION missionary’s ministry on the ground in Kathmandu and in the mountainous village region where the worker grew up. The goal will be to conduct exploratory market research and conduct a viability study of three social business ideas proposed by the ACTION missionary.

The team is also doing extensive research and hopes to offer additional sustainable development ideas to leaders they will meet during their time in Kathmandu and an adventurous eight-day trek in the upper Himalayas. Profits from these business ventures would fund ACTION’s care for orphans and widows, and support ethnic Tibetan ministry partners planting churches in the unreached mountainous regions of Nepal, Tibet, India, and Bhutan.
