FROM THE DEAN

New Hire; Korean Visitors

May you all be experiencing a wonderful and blessed summer! In this issue we feature details about SBGE’s first associate dean for accreditation, assessment, and faculty development. We’re also welcoming a number of visitors from South Korea.

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Regina Schlee began July 1 as SBGE’s first associate dean for accreditation, assessment, and faculty development. You can read more about her, as well as her exciting new role, elsewhere in this issue.

In August, SBGE is hosting a cohort of university students from South Korea’s Hoseo University, a private Christian university with campuses in the cities of Asan and Cheonan. This is our first effort to reach across the Pacific to connect with sister institutions that share our interests in faith and business. Gene Kim has been leading this effort, with support from Professors Don Lee and John Godek.

In His Light,
Joseph Williams

Regina Schlee

Dr. Regina Schlee began July 1 as SBGE’s first associate dean for accreditation, assessment, and faculty development. She will serve on the Steering Committee and chair the Assessment Committee, extend her role around faculty development, and work with the dean on AACSB accreditation issues. Currently a professor of marketing, she has served at SPU since 1984. During her time at SPU, she has done considerable work in marketing education, consumer behavior, and international marketing. In 2011, she was named “Marketing Educator of the Year” by the Marketing Educators’ Association. (SBGE’s Gary Karns also earned the award in 2001.)

Executive Advisory Board

Kevin Shoemaker

The Executive Advisory Board meeting in May featured Paul Shoemaker of Social Venture Partners and centered on our innovative one-year intensive Master of Arts in Management with an emphasis in Social and Sustainable Management degree.  Andrew Williams, a recent MAM-SSM graduate and now a consultant with Federal Services at Coalfire Systems Inc., talked about how his education is helping him at work.

Axelrod Shares at Spring Dean’s Speaker Series

Jared Axelrod, senior government affairs associate at Vulcan Inc., was this year’s spring speaker. He interacted with students from Intermediate Macroeconomics and Environmental Policy classes about how his background in political science, economics, and public affairs had led him to his current role at the company founded by Paul Allen.

Thank You From Shaina Mackin

“I just wanted to follow up regarding the AAUW Conference, Blasting Through the Glass Ceiling, that I attended in Bothell with fellow SBGE students. Thank you for the opportunity to attend and meet so many successful, inspirational women in politics, business, and leadership. It was an incredible opportunity to meet and hear from Washington state Senator Pramila Jayapal, 37th District. Again, thank you to the SBGE for this opportunity.”
